October crappie, whether in the north or south, will be in general areas
where they were in the spring. They may not be as deep, but they will be
following shad and the shad will go shallower until the water gets too cool.
Many experts prefer to spider rig in the fall because fish are moving and
following shad, so multiple baits are an advantage. However, don’t ignore
cover in areas where shad are found. Keep moving until you find fish, then
work hard on that area. TH
