Catalano: “In April the fish are up shallow where we live. I like flipping a cork 12 to 18 inches deep. Flip the jig into the shallow water. Let the jig set a little while then pop the cork to get the crappie’s attention. Pick it up, toss it out and do it again. I use a cork about the size of a nickel with a 1/16-ounce MidSouth tube jig. I’m hooked on glow with garlic and Crappie Nibbles.”
Kather: “I like to cast a Charlie Brewer Slider jig. I throw it up close to the shoreline. I cast parallel to the shore. That works best for me. I move the jig at a speed just to keep it from hitting bottom. It’s a good way to find fish quickly and stay at the right depth longer compared to throwing in toward the bank. The Slider jig reduces hang-ups.”
