Lure of the Month: 6th Sense Fishing Micro Fiction Minnow
by Terry Madewell
Mid-winter crappie anglers are often at the mercy of the weather and while often easy victims to a well-placed lure, some days they can still be finicky.

Many crappie anglers know that when crappie get persnickety, the solution can be to “size down.” That means switch to smaller, slower-moving lures.
That’s the time you may need to start thinking about micro-lure like the 6th Sense Fishing Micro Fiction 1.5-inch grub body, the January 2026 CrappieNOW Lure of the Month.
This lure, a result of collaborations with top crappie anglers, is a testament to their expertise. They understood that when the bite gets tough, pressured fish and finicky feeders often opt for a micro-sized plastic on a light jig head.
This lure is not just a weapon for tight-lipped crappie. It can be fished successfully in multiple ways and patterns, making it a versatile tool in your fishing arsenal.
Professional crappie fishing guide Kyle Miers, from Malakoff, Texas, guides year-round with great success, often using the Micro Fiction to haul slabs into his boat. His success shows this lure is an ideal choice for the winter months, and into the spring.
“It’s an important part of my arsenal of lures for day-to-day fishing and my ‘go-to’ choice when I need a small bait to tempt finicky crappie,” he said.
Miers, with Lake Country Outfitters, said the Micro Fiction’s profile is one of the keys because it imitates forage perfectly, and in this 1.5-inch size, finicky or pressured fish find it hard to resist.

“The Micro Fiction 1.5 is a small soft bait that’s ideal for finesse presentations to finicky crappie,” he said. “I like the split dorsal fin for hook alignment and the subtle kick the lure produces with the forked tail. The rounded nose snugs up against jig heads for a live-looking profile.”
Miers said he fishes the lure with jigheads ranging from 1/64 to 1/16 ounce, depending on the specific situation.
“I’ll add a Splitball lead split shot when needed to allow me to work most any depth,” he said. “The lure works great when using Forward Facing Sonar and can be presented vertically or by cast and retrieve at any depth fish are holding.
“Plus, it’s ideal for spring fishing during the spawn when fish are shallow around brush, trees, or vegetation,” he said. Fishing it shallow under a bobber is an excellent presentation for shallow water crappie.”
Miers said the Micro Fiction is an excellent bait for skipping under docks, or overhangs, any time of the year when fish are seeking shady cover.
The Micro Fiction is available in multiple colors, my top preferences being the Ghost Ice Minnow, Chartreuse Minnow, and Threadfin Shad patterns. The lures are sold in packages of 12 baits.
The Micro Fiction is a versatile lure that’s effective in many crappie-fishing scenarios. I used it in cold weather on lakes in South Carolina with good results, catching crappie at multiple depths by cast-and-retrieve and vertical presentations. And that’s the truth about the Micro Fiction.
