Will Hinson is a professional crappie angler and teaches other fishermen on how to get the most out of their forward-facing sonar. Hinson says he knows from experience that choosing the correct color lure isn’t always the best way to entice a crappie. There are times when the size of the lure or the profile are far more important than color. Read more from Hinson in Terry Madewell’s article this month, Cracking the Crappie Code: Lure Size and Profile Matter.

It is with mixed emotions that I share the news that this will be my final Opening Cast and final issue editing CrappieNOW.com.

I have thoroughly enjoyed nearly seven years at the editing helm of this online dynasty among the crappie-fishing network. I have reached the age where I have decided I want to divest myself of responsibilities so I can spend more time with family and friends – and have more free time for myself.

I hope the words I have written or edited have increased your knowledge and enjoyment in the wonderful world of crappie fishing. I have, of course, only been a small part of the conduit fed mostly by many incredible outdoor journalists. They are too numerous to name here.

Except, I will share that the CrappieNOW.com editing responsibilities will now be handled by my good friend, Keith “Catfish” Sutton. Keith has been editor of our partner publication, CatfishNOW.com for several years, but has now agreed to handle both online magazines.

I leave you, our readers, in good hands – perhaps the best hands possible as Keith has probably forgotten more about crappie fishing than I ever knew.

I hope you will continue to see my byline appear occasionally in both publications as I join former CrappieNOW.com Editor Tim Huffman in the writing ranks, rather than the editing ranks.

My thanks and good wishes go out to Publisher Dan Dannenmueller and Creative Director Matt Mullikin and the entire CrappieNOW.com team for making it look like I knew what I was doing as an editor.

I know you will enjoy the skill and knowledge written or passed along by Keith.

Here is to very “Crappie” days ahead for all of us.
