At CrappieNOW Magazine (www.CrappieNOW.com), we have an outstanding crew of loyal freelance writers, including some longtime AGLOW members. However, we always pride ourselves on offering opportunities for other freelancers to join our team. Whether you are an experienced veteran scribe or a beginner looking for a “foot in the door,” we welcome your queries (see below) on subjects of interest to crappie fishermen.
Although we are a national (or worldwide) online-only publication, we are honestly “Southeast-heavy.” We could use more content from the northeast and especially from western states. We pay $125 upon publication for Feature and Destination stories (800-1,000 words & photos) or $50 for Columns (400-500 words).
Do you have additional questions or would you like to receive a copy of the CrappieNOW Writers Guidelines? Feel free to speak with CrappieNOW Editor/AGLOW member Richard Simms (who is at this conference), or e-mail
Richard@ScenicCityFishing.com or call 423-509-4655.
Here is what we expect in Queries:
- Please provide a professionally written “Query” prior to any submission.
- Queries should be a one or two paragraph explainer of your story/column/video idea, along with telling us who your likely sources/interviews will include. HINT: Quality writing in the query reflects on the anticipated quality of the completed piece.
- It should also include information on the photography/video support you already have, or can obtain, on the subject. If you already have photo support in-hand, please provide at least one sample photo.
- If a seasonal subject, please mention the suggested months the piece would be most timely.
- Remember CrappieNOW is a National (or International) publication. You may be writing about a specific body of water, but to appeal to our broader audience, when possible, it is important to try and provide information that might also be applicable to other places.
Thank you for your interest!
Richard Simms, Editor
