Morning: Focus on the west side of standing timber, brush piles, docks, and bridge pilings, where the rising sun casts the first shadows. Crappie commonly position themselves along these shaded edges to ambush baitfish.
Midday: As the sun climbs higher, shade becomes more limited and concentrated. Crappie typically hold tight to the darkest portions of docks, brush piles, standing timber, and submerged trees, particularly in clear water where sunlight penetrates deeper.
Afternoon: As the sun moves toward the west, the shadows shift to the east side of the same structures. Reposition your presentation to these newly shaded areas, where crappie often relocate to remain under cover while continuing to feed.
