September and October are great months to use your electronics to the max. Find schools of shad. Crappie are feeding on the shad. As long as the water is warm you’ll have good luck in ditches, creek channels and river channels. Make sure you see the shad before dropping a bait into the water. Also, be sure to keep baits a foot or two above the fish because the crappie will be looking up.
