“Lily pads in the summer can be good fishing. When it gets very hot it can still be good. A good place to look is in a thick, heavy brushpile or in the pads because they both provide shade. The shade is critical for the fish.
“Fish three to five feet in the pads is a good place to start. High sun puts them closer to the bottom and tight to the pads. One trick fishing these is to use a longer pole. A 12-footer is good but a 13-foot ultralight pole is better to reach out further away from the boat. You can hit more holes without moving the boat.” …Louie Mansfield
