Winter is really a good time to go crappie fishing. It has taken years for many people to realize this but now we see it at most of the lakes. The fish move slowly but they still eat.
When the water temperatures are below 39 degrees going slow it the number one key. You have to ease a bait to get bite. Slow trollers use chains so they can inch along. The boat can go a lot slower and more consistent. Live bait is best. When the algae is out of the lake and water is clear a Rosy Red minnow is two-to-one better. I don’t know why. I usually fish a foot off bottom. Bottom is where most of the better fish will be holding.
