“I’m strictly a jig fisherman. I wouldn’t put a minnow in my boat.” Or, “I’m a minnow fisherman.”
We’ve all heard it and you might be one who believes in sticking with only one bait. Here are some plus and minus points about each.
JIGS
>When fish are actively hitting jigs, you’ll catch more fish on a jig. The reason is less lost time re-baiting minnows after each hit.
>A jig can be put into places a minnow rig can not.
>Jigs are more fun to use.
MINNOWS
>There are times crappie won’t hit a jig but they will hit a straight minnow.
>Nothing can improve on the look, smell, action and flash of a live minnow.
>Minnows are expensive and can be difficult to keep alive. They are a pain in warm weather.
COMBO
>One of the most deadly ways to use a jig and minnow is in combination. The weight and color of a jig complimented with the look, smell and action of a live minnow can be an excellent fish-catcher. -TH
