Q&A If you fish a piece of cover and catch no crappie, will you come back and fish it later?
Brian Sowers, Missouri. “If I have caught fish there before I will probably go back there and visit later. Fish might not be biting or might move so I’ll give it another shot. When I’m sure there are fish on the cover, I’ll start changing size, color, add a minnow, and change speeds until I’m sure they are not going to bite.”
Jason Westerberg, Arkansas. “I’ll go back if I think it is a good spot. Sometimes there will be active fish later. We slow troll all year long so we might change baits, speeds and depths, but not our technique.”
Jim Dant, Missouri. “It depends where I’m fishing. At Truman there are so many hedge trees I won’t go back. On other lakes, if I know fish are there, I’ll go back. I’ll also slow down and spend four or five minutes fishing one tree or other piece of cover. I also make sure my bait matches the shad in the lake.”
Tim Blackley, Tennessee. “Sure, we’ll come back and fish a piece of cover later if we see fish on our scanner. A lot of times the fish are there and just don’t bite. Last year at Columbus we did mediocre the first day of the tournament. However, we knew fish were on the cover so went to the same spots on day two and caught the second largest stringer.
