Crappie Tips: Best Color Crankbaits
Trolling crankbaits is an excellent summer technique but color can be critical
by Tim Huffman
Experts have trouble explaining why crappie are so color sensitive to crankbaits, they just know they are. The best colors can change day-to-day or even hour-to-hour. The following list of colors came from interviewing numerous crappie pros.
- Pink – The overwhelming favorite was a lighter pink shade with sparkles. Other pinks are next.
- Orange – Several years ago orange became the rage and it is still catching crappie today.
- Chartreuse – Chartreuse is often a crappie favorite with fishing jigs or crankbaits.
- Chrome/Black or Chrome/Blue – Obviously this is a great color to match the baitfish when crappie are feeding on shad
Great brands include the Bandit 200 or 300 series, Lucky Craft or Rapala’s.
