Crappie Basics: New State Record White Crappie in Kansas

CrappieNOW sends a big congratulatory shout-out to Bobby Parkhurst from Topeka, Kansas.
Parkhurst caught a 4.07-pound white crappie that has recently been officially recognized as the new state record white crappie in Kansas.
Parkhurst was fishing with a live minnow at Pottawatomie State Fishing Lake No. 2 when the catch-of-a-lifetime hit. The previous Kansas state record white crappie (4.02 lbs.) was nearly 60 years old.
“As fisheries biologists, we get the chance to see a lot of big fish but this one is certainly for the books,” said John Reinke, assistant director of Fisheries for the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks. “This crappie measured in at 18 inches long and 14 inches in girth, so it truly deserves a spot on the state record list.”
The Kansas state record black crappie was caught in 1957 and weighed 4.63 pounds.
