John Shannon- Missouri. On lakes with shallow flats they move in on the cover. Summer when it is hot there is more oxygen. I like jig fishing with hair and marabou. These jigs flow more and have better action. The ones I use are a little smaller but when the bite is slow the fish will hit them when they won’t hit anything else. When fishing shallow do it like you’re hunting. Sneak up on them and take your time. Never backwash the tree.
Chuck Thompson-Mississippi. At my home lake of Sardis, the fish are deep this time of year. I troll Bandit 300-series crankbaits and use line counter reel. Pull off the side using 10, 12, and 14-foot poles. Usually around 1.5 mph. I fish early morning and try to be off by noon because it’s so hot. I have a big sports umbrella I can put up for shade. Good colors are Mistake, Bubble Gum and Hotty Totty.
Travis Mace- In tough fishing conditions, the fish go shallower so that’s the first bite we look for. Shad will usually be more prevalent in the shallower water so we look for them, too.
Kevin Pitts- At Truman it seems like the muddy water fish wants the jig swimming by the tree instead of vertical jigged. So we swing it by them. Also, the bigger the bait the better.
