FISHING FOR ORGANIC CRAPPIE
I went grocery shopping with my wife the other day. I am usually not a good shopper unless I am in an outdoor store. As I followed her around, I was amazed at all the organic foods with green and white labels. The prices amazed me too. They weren’t cheap. Some of those labels were in our grocery cart. I could have bought a lot of crappie lures for what they cost.
When we got home, I got on the computer and typed in organic foods. I found that organic meats are free of antibiotics, growth hormones or other drugs. According to the USDA, they should not be genetically modified or unnaturally enhanced. They must have access to the outdoors to give them more room to move around and not be cramped inhumanely in some crowded pen.
That means that I have been eating natural organic foods for years. The crappie and other fish I catch and eat are naturally organic. So is the wild game I hunt and the mushrooms I find.
I shut off the computer and headed out to my workshop to grab my crappie fishing stuff. I stick my head in the back door, fishing rod in hand, and tell my wife I am going shopping for organic food. She rolls her eyes and tells me to have a good time shopping.
Since deer and duck seasons are also coming, please feel free to use any or all of the above information with your wife to get away more for organic food shopping. You have to hope she doesn’t figure the cost of all the stuff you use outdoors doing your organic shopping.
CATCHING CRAPPIE WITH COD LIVER OIL
There are lots of scent products available for your fishing lures. Here is an alternative that is cheaper and works just as well. Fill an empty nasal-spray bottle with plain old cod liver oil. Squeeze a drop and rub it on your lure. It works well with marabou and bucktail jigs. Sometimes it can make the difference between lots of bites or none.
You would also be wise to use cod liver oil for your health. It contains vitamin A for immune system function, cellular growth, eye health, and reproduction. It is also rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which decrease blood clot formation and reduce inflammation. Cod liver oil is also high in vitamin D content.
SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT
Being a fisherman is a good thing. Did you know that of the twelve people Jesus chose to be his disciples, seven of them were fishermen? There are also many stories in the bible about fishing.
When Jesus fed the multitudes, what did he feed them?
Fish!
All that is the reason we should go fishing as often as possible. You never know when Jesus might show up and join us.
