The Great Outdoors

WELCOME TO JUNE
I don’t know about you but I really enjoy the month of June. It’s usually not too hot, not too cool, not too much bad weather to spoil our outdoor adventures. Flowers are blooming both planted and wild, the garden’s growing, birds are singing, hummingbirds and bees are buzzing, and so are the lawnmowers.
June is a great time to be on the water fishing, boating, canoeing or kayaking. June is a great time to enjoy taking a hike up some winding trail or maybe just take a walk through the park.
June is a great time to go camping and escape the everyday work week. Food just taste better out there camping and especially s’mores. Campfires and star-filled, moonlit nights are better than any TV show or movie. You’ll find crappie fishermen and lovers under the same June moon.
June is great for wading a creek, catching crawdad’s, skipping rocks, fishing for small perch, going for a swim, or sitting on a gravel bar counting your blessings and pondering your place in this world. Get outdoors and enjoy June!

DON’T BLAME THE GUNS
When someone goes on a rampage killing people, guns are blamed.
“Take guns away and ban them,” they say.
I have a great idea. How about we ban the TV shows and movies that show all the violence that puts the ideas in these people’s head to do what they do.
And, have you watched the electronic games your kids are playing? They are just as bad. They get points for shooting and blowing up people. Those that do the horrific shootings, in most cases, are acting out what they see on TV and video games. To them it’s not real. Don’t blame the guns!
A FATHER’S DAY GIFT
Give yourself a Father’s Day gift this year and take your kids fishing. Go make a memory they and you will never forget.
NATIONAL GET OUTDOORS DAY
Saturday, June 12th is National Get Outdoors Day. Politicians have figured out what the outdoors means big dollars to our nation’s economy. Maybe they need to get outdoors and discover that the great outdoors is worth a lot more than money.
We have had several presidents that enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, hiking and even the shooting sports but I don’t think the current administration does any of that. A very few senators and representatives might.
I think we ought to invite them to come join us so they can find out how beneficial getting out in the great outdoors is. Maybe beneficial is the wrong word to use with politicians. Beneficial doesn’t mean more money in their pockets or helping them get re-elected. It could change their lives and the people they are supposed to represent for the better.
Getting them in the outdoors would be beneficial in helping them understand what we already know. The outdoors is good for your body and good for your soul and most of them certainly need that.
